Inspection points

Four checkpoints, and what happens at each

Every consignment passes the same four stages. What is checked at each is fixed, so a buyer knows exactly which parameters were verified before the container sealed.

At intake

  • Lot inspected on arrival against the agreed grade
  • Visual assessment for colour, size and maturity
  • Foreign matter and admixture assessed
  • Moisture measured before the lot is accepted

At grading

  • Machine and manual sorting to the agreed parameters
  • Sortex where the specification calls for it
  • Broken, immature and discoloured material removed
  • Retained sample drawn and held against the lot

At packing

  • New bags used, in the agreed type and weight
  • Bag weight verified by scale, not by count alone
  • Marking and labelling applied per buyer instruction
  • Fumigation carried out where the destination requires it

At loading

  • Container inspected for cleanliness, odour and water ingress
  • Stuffing supervised, with dunnage and liners as needed
  • Loaded count reconciled against the packing list
  • Container sealed and the seal number recorded

Specification

What is agreed, category by category

Quality is only checkable against something written down. These are the parameters each category is specified on — settled with the buyer before a quotation is issued, and verified again at the checkpoints above.

Where a buyer nominates a third-party inspection agency, the same parameters are what the agency is asked to certify. Tolerances are agreed in writing at quotation, not assumed.

Grade, moisture, tolerance and packing are confirmed with the buyer before a consignment is prepared, so there is a single agreed reference for the order.

Consignments are inspected and graded against that specification, and moisture and foreign matter are verified before packing.

Stored and handled with care

Goods are held in dry, ventilated conditions appropriate to the commodity, and aroma-sensitive lines are kept away from strong odours.

Export documentation is prepared to reflect the declared grade and quantity of the consignment that actually loads.
